Door Finish Cleaning Instructions: |
Maintenance of Wood grain Doors: |
|
|
Your steel door finishes resist airborne dirt and in most cases normal rainfall or periodic rinsing with clear water will keep door surfaces clean. Where an unusual amount of dirt is deposited on the door surfaces, the following simple cleaning procedure should be followed as often as conditions demand. Surface Soil or Stains The use of ordinary, NON-ABRASIVE household dish washing detergents is recommended for stains resulting from the industrial fallout, hand or finger prints, fumes, etc. One cup of MILD dish washing detergent per gallon or warm water is recommended. Use a SOFT rag or sponge with GENTLE rubbing action (VIGOROUS RUBBING) can cause undesirable GLOSSY AREAS over the satin finish of the door). IMMEDIATELY RINSE surfaces thoroughly with clean water. |
Your insulated steel door has been finished by hand in a UNIQUE WOODGRAIN FINISH by experienced finish craftsmen. The entire process involves four separate finish coats on each door.

Stubborn Stains/Mildew “DO NOT USE ABRASIVE OR SOLVENT TYPE CLEANERS OR PAINT REMOVER” These materials may soften or actually remove your door finish! In some areas, mildew can be a problem and will appear as black spots on the surface of your door. It may occur on protected surfaces such as under or inside porch enclosures, dark side of houses, etc. To remove these stains/mildew, prepare a solution as follows:
* CAUTION: Greater concentrations may cause damage to your door finish. Avoid skin contact. Follow instructions for cleaning and rinsing door surfaces under “Surface Soil or Stains”. |
Consumers should be cautioned that no two wood grained doors will look exactly alike, but we are confident that you will agree the unique qualities of woodgrain finishes add to their natural beauty. REMEMBER …the woodgrain effect is hand applied and rubbed by an experienced craftsman….NOT an automatic machine. Touch-Up of Wood Grained Finish Step 1. If the area to be touched-up is exposed to primer or down to bare metal use the woodgrain base color. Step 2. Apply the appropriate stain to the repainted spot by hand rubbing and feather to match the surrounding color. Step 3. The final step after you are satisfied as to the stain march is to apply a coat of polyurethane to protect the new finish. The finish touch-up should be done on clean, dry surfaces and above a temperature of 65 degrees Fahrenheit. Patience and care must be practiced. |

Color Changes Surfaces, other than white, will display some color change in normal aging. Colored coatings however, are formulated to retain their original shades for long periods. Touch-Up or Refinishing Your steel door comes to you formed from two rust proof galvanized bonderized and prime painted steel panels. The finish color is expertly lacquered, assuring you of years of service. Bonderized steel, special primers and multiple lacquer finish coats provide an excellent base if repainting is necessary to match a specific decor, or repair damage. |
To maintain the beauty and luster of your woodgrain finish, it is necessary to periodically refinish the spar urethane coating. This is accomplished by lightly rubbing the door surface with “000” steel wool pad to rough up the existing finish. Using a high quality, semi-gloss exterior spar urethane (i.e. Min Was), cut 10% and apply with a foam brush. This will restore the finish to its original luster. |
